Anambra inaugurates members of state Bureau on Public Procurement

Amawbia, May 30, 2020 (MOI) Anambra State Government has inaugurated a 14-member Bureau on Public Procurement.
This inauguration has led to the signing into law of Anambra State Bureau on Public Procurement Law, 2020 by Gov. Willie Obiano.
Members of the Bureau comprise Mr Melie Onyejepu as its General Manager, Mr Chris Iteke as Secretary.
Other members are the Principle Secretary to Governor, Mr Willie Nwokoye; Commissioner for Basic Education, Prof Kate Omenugha, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mr Greg Obi, the Commissioner for Transport, Dr Christian Madubuko.
The rest are Mr Nnamdi Onukwuba, Commissioner for Agric; Pat Igwebuike, SSA; Mr Ernest Adinweruka, Special Adviser: Mr Afam Mbanefo, Commissioner for Youth & Creative Art: Mr Chukwuka Ezenwuzie, Special Adviser to Governor on Disability Matters; Mr Okey Ezeobi, Mr Simon Attah and Mr Leo Ogbuefi.
Inaugurating them at Governor's Lodge, Amawbia, Gov. Obiano directed them to formulate general policies and guidelines relating to public sector procurement for approval by the Executive Council.
According to the Governor, they will also be expected to publish details of major contracts in the Procurement journal; maintain a state database of the particulars, classification and categorisation of contractors and service providers.
The body would monitor prices of tendered items and keep a state database of standard prices.
Gov. Obiano, then, also mandated them to ensure transparency and deliver in accordance with stipulated terms and conditions.
Reacting, Mr Mbanefo, who spoke on behalf of the General Manager of the Committee, Chief Onyejepu, commended Government for the trust in granting them the opportunity to serve, promising to work for effective service delivery. (MOI)
