Embrace peace to move Okpoko forward -- says Ogbaru TC Chairman
By Juliana Nwachukwu :
Okpoko (Ogbaru LGA), May 30, 2020 (MOI) Transition Committee Chairman, Ogbaru LGA, Mr Arinze Awogu, has urged people of Okpoko to embrace peace in order to move the community forward.
``We need peace and support of everybody to bring development and government intervention in Okpoko," Awogu said.
He made the plea, while inaugurating the newly-elected members of Executive Committee of Okpoko Community at the Local Government Area (LGA) Secretariat, Okpoko.
Awogu said that the community was now united under the leadership of Mr Francis Enemuoh, the new President-General of Okpoko community.
He said that the new and former President-General reconciled their differences as well as resolved to forge peace and unity between them before coming to the event.
``Okpoko community has agreed to speak with one voice. And there is no victor, no vanquished.
``There is no scores to settle and my office is open to everybody,” he said.
Mr Awogu enjoined the new PG to pilot the affairs of the community with fear of God until the expiration of his tenure.
He promised to run a transparent and non-discriminatory leadership, so that Okpoko would enjoy peace and unity, which was a force for communal development.
In his address, Secretary-General, Okpoko Community, Mr Raphael Agu, urged the state government to implement measures that would prevent the community from relapsing into bloodshed and violence again.
``Okpoko is a densely populated community; however, its people are suffering because of bad and selfish leadership.
``The enthronement of the new executive is a good omen for us. And we will ensure that backlog of salaries owed members of the Vigilance Group will be paid,’’ he said.
Mr Agu noted that inauguration of the new president-general into office was not only a victory for him, but also for the entire town.
``It is a victory of good over evil; the victory of right over wrongs and the victory of justice over injustice,’’ he said. (MOI)
