Anambra Governor sacks former SARS boss, calls for his prosecution

Awka, Oct. 16, 2020 (MOI) Gov. Willie Obiano has announced an immediate sack of a former Anambra SARS head of operations, a retired Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) James Nwafor.
Nwafor was relieved of his position as an Anambra State Government appointee as Senior Special Assistant.
Gov. Obiano also announced that Mr Nwafor would be prosecuted alongside other defunct SARS officials, who were allegedly found wanting in the discharge of their duties as SARS operatives in the state.
The governor announced this while addressing #EndSARS protesters at the Government House, Awka.
He said that his administration would ensure immediate release of illegal detainees in SARS's detention across the state; ``those legitimately detained will be prosecuted under the law’’.
Gov. Obiano urged the protesters to report any police officer found engaging in illegal duties.
Addressing the Governor, one of the protesters, Mr Victor Ayika pleaded with him to march his words with action and implement all their demands.
Some of their demands include immediate prosecution of James Nwafor, immediate release of all protesters held by police, those under unlawful detention in SARS, Anti Cult, and other Police illegal confinements.
It also includes compensation for families of SARS victims, no searching of phones and electronic gadgets, end police extortion and checkpoints. (MOI)
